England batter Dawid Malan was delighted after the visitors defeated Pakistan by a huge margin of 67 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Sunday. Malan said it was a fantastic effort from the team to put a par score of 209 runs on the board after they were put into bat by Babar Azam.
The southpaw played a key role in helping the tourists get past the 200-run mark as he scored an unbeaten 78 runs from 47 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. Furthermore, Harry Brook continued his good form as he added the finishing touches with a fine knock of 46 runs off 29 balls.
Malan and Brook added a fine alliance of 108 runs for the fourth wicket as the pair batted at the top of their game and took Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners.
Malan was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock. He said after the game, “We put on a big score, it was a fantastic effort from us. We felt the first 12-14 overs, it was coming on nicely. Luckily our bowlers learnt from the opposition bowlers’ mistakes. It slowed down considerably. We are looking forward to getting off to Australia in a couple of days. Thanks for having us here.”
On the other hand, Harry Brook finished as the third-highest run-getter of the series as he scored 238 runs in six innings at an average of 79.33 and a blistering strike rate of 163.01.
He was awarded the Player of the Series for his consistent performances in the middle order for England.
The 23-year-old youngster from Yorkshire said after the game, “I just try to hit straight and play the ball on its merit. Plenty of practice, doing drills and time in the nets (has helped him execute those shots). All the lads are looking forward to getting out there, and get going against Australia in the three-match series, and obviously then to the World Cup. It has been good fun. We have been in the hotel for quite a bit, but we are ready to get to Australia now.”
England will now take on Australia in the three-match T20I series before the T20 World Cup.
