Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel has questioned India’s planning after nine-wicket loss against England at County Ground, Bristol, on Thursday. India could only manage 158 runs on the board after electing to bat first and suffered a massive loss as the hosts were able to chase down the target inside 14 overs.
Patel questioned Indian batters’ shot selection after they posted a below-par score on the board. The former Gujarat captain highlighted Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan’s dismissals after both batters were dismissed while trying to play the pull shot.
Barring Shreyas Iyer, who scored 80 runs off 49 balls, none of the other Indian batters could show much fight in the middle.
“The way batters are getting out, it’s not like there is any doubt about anyone’s skill. However, if the ball is not there for the pull shot, you cannot hit it. The question is about the shot selection. It comes down to the planning. Obviously, England are playing better than us, but the planning is not happening properly,” Parthiv Patel said on his JioHotstar.
Patel slammed the Indian batters for playing across the line against short-pitched deliveries.
“If the ball is going across you and you try to hit it on the leg side, the ball won’t go. All these balls would have gone out of the ground in the IPL. There are many questions. We have been saying the same thing for the last 10 years, that everything would be fine once Bumrah and Hardik Pandya come,” he added.
The GT assistant coach reckons the Impact Player isn’t allowing India to find a replacement for Hardik Pandya.
“However, we haven’t been able to find replacements for Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah for 10 years. The biggest thing is the IPL’s Impact Player. Bumrah’s thing is different, but until the Impact Player is removed from the IPL, India won’t get the all-rounder they need,” he observed.
The fifth T20I between India and England will be played at Rose Bowl, Southampton, on Saturday.
