Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will need to learn how to deal with the short delivery in the ongoing T20I series against England. After Sooryavanshi was stumped on his T20I debut, he received a bumper from his Rajasthan Royals teammate Jofra Archer in the second game at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Tuesday.
After scoring 13 runs, Sooryavanshi got a faint edge to keeper, Jos Buttler, when he was looking to hit the bouncer to the leg side.
Sooryavanshi was dismissed after scoring 14 runs on his debut and thus it hasn’t been a great start to his T20I career.
“Not just Jofra Archer, anyone in world cricket, who has watched the IPL, I am not surprised that there has been a plan to bowl short to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. As Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to play international cricket, he will have to face this type of bowling. There will definitely be a question of how he will be able to cope because all bowlers will come with this type of planning,” Parthiv Patel said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Patel urged the Indian batters to take a bit more time before catapulting their attacks on the opposition. India has adopted an aggressive batting approach but Patel wants the batters to play according to the situation after they were skittled out for 76 runs in the last game.
“There has to be a better understanding of the game from the batters in the fourth T20I, a bit more game awareness. All of these are experienced T20 batters, so they know that they have more time than they think. They can take one or two overs because these conditions are different, the wickets won’t be entirely flat here, you have to get used to the ground dimensions, so it is important to give yourself that little bit of time,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
The fourth T20I between England and India will be played at Bristol, County Ground on Thursday.
