Former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has picked his all-time ODI XI, in which he named MS Dhoni as the skipper. Dhoni led India to glory in the 2011 World Cup and played a match-winning knock of 91 runs in the final against Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the 2013 Champions Trophy after beating England in the final. Chawla picked Indian captain Rohit Sharma and legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar as openers in his team. Tendulkar is currently the highest run-getter in ODIs.
The veteran spinner selected Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh in the middle order. Kohli is known as the chase-master whereas Yuvraj Singh played an instrumental role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph. 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev also finds a place in Chawla’s team.
Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh have been picked as the two spinners in the team whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Zaheer Khan are the two fast bowlers in Chawla’s team.
Meanwhile, Chawla recalled how Rohit Sharma called him in the wee hours and discussed how they could dismiss David Warner.
“I’ve played so much cricket with him that we’ve reached a comfort level. We sit off the field as well. Once, at 2:30 in the night, he texted me and asked, “you up?” He drew a field on paper and discussed with me about potentially dismissing Warner. Even at that time, he was thinking about how he could get the best out of me,” Chawla was quoted as saying to YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast.
