Former Gujarat batter Priyank Panchal questioned India’s bowling in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Wednesday. Indian skipper Shubman Gill decided to bowl first after winning the toss but the fast bowlers failed to hit the right areas.
The Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners by the West Indies opener John Campbell, who scored his second ODI century. The left-hander completed his century off just 65 balls to put the visitors in a commanding position.
The tourists posted 96 runs in the first 10 overs with the loss of only one wicket.
West Indies captain Shai Hope scored his 20th ODI century, and went past Brian Lara’s tally of ODI hundreds. Hope scored an impressive knock of 104 runs off 94 balls, with the help of eight fours and three sixes.
Amir Jangoo continued to impress as the left-hander scored his second ODI ton, scoring a brilliant knock of 114 runs off 77 balls. The southpaw smashed 13 fours and three maximums in his knock. Thus, West Indies posted an above-par score of 405-7 on the board.
Meanwhile, all the Indian fast bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than nine. The trio of Prasidh Krishna, Auqib Nabi Dar and Gurnoor Brar could not deliver for the team.
“If West Indies, who didn’t even qualify for the previous ODI World Cup, can consistently take our bowlers to the cleaners.. then it’s a concerning sign heading into the World Cup 2027,” Priyank Panchal posted on X.
In the absence of ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, India’s bowling has looked toothless and it is a definitely a matter of concern.
