Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz admitted that he couldn’t lead from the front in the 13th match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2022 at the National Stadium, Karachi against defending champions Multan Sultans on Saturday.
Zalmi suffered a huge loss of 57 runs as Multan Sultans posted an above-par 222 runs while Peshwar could only manage 165 runs.
Meanwhile, Wahab Riaz had a forgettable day as a leader as he was taken for 55 runs in his four overs. Furthermore, Riaz could not hang on to his catches. He admitted that they didn’t bowl well and they will need to improve their catching.
Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan scored a fine knock of 82 runs off just 53 balls while Tim David smashed 51 runs off just 19 balls. Five out of the six bowlers which Wahab Riaz used, including himself, went for nine runs/over or more.
Wahab Riaz said while talking in the post-match presentation, “We didn’t bowl well, I didn’t perform well. As a captain, I need to lead from the front, which I couldn’t do. We dropped a few catches, so we need to work on our fielding. Catches win matches. Everyone needs to work hard and improve in the next match, hopefully, we manage to do that”.
Tim David was dropped by Saqib Mahmood when he was only on six runs and he went on to score a cracking fifty. Furthermore, Peshawar Zalmi was sloppy in the field as they misfielded a lot. Thus, Peshawar Zalmi will need to come up with a better performance in their next match in the field and also with the ball.
On the other hand, Hazratullah Zazai and Haider Ali got off to a start but could go on to get a big score. Ben Cutting scored a fine unbeaten knock of 52 runs off 31 balls for Peshawar Zalmi.
Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers for Multan Sultans as he scalped three wickets for 25 runs. Shahnawaz Dahani also snared three wickets for the defending champions.
Peshawar Zalmi will once again take on Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Thursday.
