Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan gave credit to the players and the team management after they defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 42 runs in the 16th match of the Pakistan Super League at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Thursday.
This was Multan Sultans’ sixth consecutive win of the tournament as they continued their purple patch.
Multan Sultans posted a par score of 182 runs after Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz won the toss and decided to bowl first. Shan Masood, who has been getting off to starts in almost all the matches, scored a fine knock of 68 runs off just 49 balls.
Tim David, who was promoted to number three scored a quickfire knock of 34 runs off just 18 balls. However, despite a convincing win, Multan Sultans were not clinical in the field as they dropped some of their chances. Thus, Rizwan said they need to improve their fielding in the upcoming matches as it could make a huge difference in the latter stages of the tournament.
Mohammad Rizwan said in the post-match presentation, “The credit goes to the players and the team management. We dropped a lot of catches, but we managed to end up on the winning side. We were thinking of getting to 180-odd and we managed to do that. Khushdil Shah is a confident player and he has the ability to become a good all-rounder for Pakistan. We need to work on our fielding, the batting and bowling have been good. We need to give opportunities to the players on the bench”.
On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz admitted that they are making the same mistakes in the powerplay overs and they need to bounce back stronger.
Riaz said after the game, “We are committing mistakes in the powerplay. We are not winning those moments in the powerplay. It’s always going to be difficult to bounce back for such situations. We need to execute our plans, we haven’t been able to do so. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do that in the upcoming games”.
Multan Sultans have ticked almost all the right boxes and they would look to come up with a better fielding performance in the upcoming matches. The defending champions will next take on Lahore Qalandars on Friday at the same venue
