Karachi Kings captain Babar Azam admitted that the shot selection wasn’t spot on from his batters as they were skittled out for a meager total of 113 runs against Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium, Karachi on Saturday. It was Karachi Kings’ second game of the tourney and their batting unit once again let them down as they could only manage 124 runs against reigning champions Multan Sultans in the season’s opener.
Karachi Kings were put in to bat by Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and they got off to a horrid start as they lost four wickets inside the first five overs. Sohail Tanvir struck twice to send back Sharjeel Khan and Joe Clarke in the third over of the game and Karachi Kings were put under the cosh by the opposition bowlers.
Naseem Shah bowled quick to trouble the middle order and took two wickets off the first two balls he bowled. Shah returned with his best PSL bowling figures of 5-20 in 3.3 overs as he scalped his maiden five-wicket haul in the tournament.
On the other hand, none of the Karachi Kings batters could get going. In fact, only four Karachi Kings batters could reach the double figures as Shah was at his absolute best. But some of the shot-making was not great from the Karachi Kings batsmen and it led to the downfall of the team.
Babar Azam stated that they will try to correct their mistakes in the upcoming matches.
Babaz Azam said in the post-match presentation, “The wicket wasn’t bad. The shot selection wasn’t spot-on. We need to work on that and learn from our mistakes. We need to focus on the next game. We’ll try not to repeat the same mistakes”.
Karachi Kings’ batters haven’t been able to get going in the first two matches and thus the team has ended on the losing in both of their fixtures as they haven’t been able to put enough runs on the board. The Kings will look to come up with a collective batting effort in their next match.
Karachi Kings will next face Lahore Qalandars on Sunday at the same venue of National Stadium, Karachi.
