Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin reckons if Gujarat Titans wins the ongoing IPL 2026 title, it would be the biggest heist in the tournament’s history. Ashwin reckons there are many holes in GT’s team but they have plugged them with their consistent performances.
GT was able to qualify for the first qualifier but suffered a gargantuan loss of 92 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Dharamshala on Tuesday.
Ashwin praised GT’s captain Shubman Gill and head coach Ashish Nehra for getting the best out of their players and their strategies, including the pitch preparation.
“GT have a lot of holes in their unit and to have finished in the top-2 isn’t an easy thing,” Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel.
“The way Shubman Gill has been captaining the side and batting, head coach Ashish Nehra’s way of running the team, preparing pitched supporting their bowlers, framing tactics with the opponent side in mind,” the former spinner added.
“If they manage to make it to the final, I’d tip my hat out to them. If they go on to win, it has to be the biggest heist in the history of IPL,” he stated.
Meanwhile, GT was not at their absolute best against RCB and they would look to pull up their socks in the second qualifier. GT bowlers could not hit the right areas and they were taken to the cleaners, especially by Rajat Patidar. Barring Rashid Khan and Jason Holder, all the GT bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 13.
Furthermore, GT was bowled out for 162 as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Barring Rahul Tewatia, who scored 68 runs off 43 balls, none of the other GT batters could show much resistance with the bat.
