Ravi Bishnoi needs to work on his variations – Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has opined that Ravi Bishnoi has got a lot of talent but he needs to work on his variations.

It has been noticed that Bishnoi is quick through the air and predominately bowls the wrong one. In fact, Bishnoi doesn’t have a leg-break under his quiver thus far.

Bishnoi has impressed with his skills as he had ended up as the highest wicket-taker in Under-19 2020 World Cup. He scalped 17 wickets in six matches at an average of 10.65. Subsequently, he was bagged by Punjab Kings and he has taken 24 wickets in 23 IPL matches.

Furthermore, Bishnoi recently made his T20I debut against West Indies in Kolkata and returned with impressive figures of 2-17 in his quota of four overs. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the match in his maiden match.

Meanwhile, as Bishnoi’s hand comes straight over (it is perpendicular) his head, it is difficult for him to bowl leg breaks. Consequently, he will need to bowl at an angle of 70 degrees in order to bowl leg-spin.

Danish Kaneria said on his YouTube Channel, “Ravi Bishnoi has a lot of talent. He is a young talent and it is important to see how they utilize him. International cricket is a different ball game compared to IPL or any league cricket. But if he wants to be successful in international cricket, he will need to work on his variations.”

Bishnoi is also a gun fielder and he can help the team in saving runs on the field. However, Bishnoi had dropped a couple of catches against the West Indies.

“He is a brilliant kid and also saves you 5-10 runs in the fielding. But his main department is bowling and he will have to work on his leg-spin as his googly and flipper is very good.”

Bishnoi was bagged by Lucknow Super Giants before the IPL auction. Meanwhile, Kaneria added that India’s pace battery is looking promising however he wants to see T Natarajan get back into action.

“The bowling department is looking strong with the incoming of Avesh Khan and the presence of firey pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. However, even the likes of Harshal Patel are right-arm pacers and we had seen with the likes of T Natarajan the kind of impact that left-arm pacers have across formats.”

India will play the first Test match against Sri Lanka from 4th March at Mohali.
