Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri is expected to relinquish his duties after the completion of the T20 World Cup, media reports claim.
Shastri’s contract will end after the T20 World Cup and he is expected to resign from the coveted post.
It has been reported that former Indian captain Rahul Dravid is a front runner to be the next coach of the team.
Furthermore, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is also in contention to be the new coach of the national after Shastri’s stint.
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid had recently coached the Indian team on the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, in which India won the ODI series but went on to lose the T20I series.
However, Dravid has also re-applied for the Director post of the National Cricket Academy, which has raised doubts about his new role as the chief coach.
It has been reported that Ravi Shastri’s contract can be extended by one month by the BCCI. Thus, Rahul Dravid or Virender Sehwag will not take over the role for the home series against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup.
Dravid’s (if he takes up the role) first assignment as the chief coach could be the away series against South Africa. India is yet to savour success in Test series in the Rainbow nation.
Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri has done a fine job for the Indian team since taking over the coaching mantle from Anil Kumble. Shastri had taken over as the coach after there was a fallout between Kumble and Kohli in 2017. The former Indian all-rounder was re-appointed as the head coach in August 2019.
Furthermore, it has been reported that bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar will also not be part of the new team management however batting coach Vikram Rathour will continue with his role.
