Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin reckons the captain-coach combination of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard will be good for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2027. Hardik Pandya is expected to part ways with the franchise and if he doesn’t, it is reported that he may not continue as captain.
Under Pandya, Mumbai Indians have managed to qualify for the playoffs on a solitary occasion in the last three seasons.
Meanwhile, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to great success as a leader. He led the franchise to five titles and he is the joint most successful IPL captain along with MS Dhoni.
On Sunday, Kieron Pollard was appointed as Mumbai Indians’ head coach after the franchise parted ways with Mahela Jayawardene.
“I think Rohit and Pollard can be a good combination. This might happen, I don’t know. I am sure Hardik will not be there. His chances of staying there are very low. Suryakumar is out of the Indian team. I don’t see him captaining MI. It has become a big problem. This team needs to fix a lot of things now. Anyway, there is only one year left for the mega auction. Who has the experience to fix these things in this short time? It is Rohit. So I think it is an obvious choice, at least for this year. He is a frontrunner for me. He has a good bond with Polly also,” Ashwin said on ‘Ash ki Baat’.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has been struggling with injury woes and last played professional cricket in IPL 2026. It has been reported that Pandya will be next seen in action in IPL 2027.
Rohit, on the other hand, will be seen in action in the ODI series against New Zealand.
