Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has shed light on Virat Kohli’s mindset after the first ODI against New Zealand. Ashwin said Kohli is not thinking anything and he hasn’t changed anything in his batting technique.
Kohli scored a match-winning knock of 93 runs off just 91 balls with the help of eight fours and one six against New Zealand in the series opener at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara on Sunday.
Once again, the talisman was able to hit the ground running and took the attack against the opposition from the get-go. Thus, he played an instrumental role in India’s four-wicket win and was awarded Player of the Match.
Kohli also breached the 28000 runs mark in International cricket across all formats, becoming the second player to do so after legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli has amassed 28068 runs in 557 matches across all formats, whereas Tendulkar scored 34357 runs in 664 games at the top level.
Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel, “It looks like nothing is going on in his mind. You asked me what he has changed. He hasn’t changed anything; he is just not thinking about anything. He made a decision that he just wants to enjoy his cricket. It seems like he is playing with the attitude of batting in his childhood, combined with the experience of so many years.”
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer scored a decent knock of 49 runs off 47 balls after coming back from injury and Ashwin said the Mumbai batter has been Mr. Consistent in ODI format.
“We know that Shreyas has been Mr consistent for India in ODI cricket. His dismissal was very unlike Shreyas. He never leaves the game like this; he generally finishes it. But it is very understandable, he is making a comeback, and that was a good ball by Jamieson.”
The second ODI between India and New Zealand will be played at Rajkot on Wednesday.
