India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami, and Shikhar Dhawan are among the marquee players for the upcoming auction of IPL 2022, which will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. A total of 1214 players had registered themselves for the mega auction but the list has been pruned to 590 players by the Indian board.
Out of these 590 players, 28 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations. A total of 370 Indian players and 220 overseas players will go under the hammer.
48 players have set their base price at INR 2 crores while 20 players have a reserve price of INR 1.5 crores and 34 players have a base price of INR 1 crore. Thus, it will be an interesting race between 10 franchises to pick these 102 players in the auction
There are a total of 10 marquee players for the mega auction. They are Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, Faf du Plessis, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Shreyas Iyer, R Ashwin, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult.
Meanwhile, big players like Chris Gayle and Ben Stokes have not signed up for IPL 2022 mega auction. Thus, it is expected to be the end of Gayle’s glorious career in the IPL.
Jofra Archer has put his name in the auction but he is unlikely to be available for the upcoming season as he is still recovering from his elbow injury. Archer will be available for the next two seasons but no replacement will be given to a franchise, who will pick the Englishman, for the 15th season.
“He won’t feature in the Marquee or other sets to be presented. He will be available to be called during the accelerated auction and whoever picks him will not get a replacement player for IPL 2022 season for his place as he is already injured and unlikely to participate in IPL 2022 season,” the BCCI wrote.
Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja, who recently scored twin hundreds in the fourth Ashes Test has also put his hat in the ring for the auction and has set his base price at INR 1.5 Crores. Mitchell Starc however has decided not to go into the auction to spend more time with his family.
