Delhi Capitals’ former head coach Ricky Ponting admitted that Prithvi Shaw is one of the most talented batters he has ever worked with. Ponting noted it is sad to see Shaw go unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shaw could not attract any buyers in the auction despite setting his base price at INR 75 lakhs.
Shaw could only manage 198 runs in eight matches at an average of 24.75 and could not deliver consistently for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
The Mumbai batter has been under the scanner for fitness and disciplinary issues in the recent past and needs to turn a corner to get his career back on track.
While the likes of Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and Riyan Parag have taken giant strides at the top level, Shaw’s career has gone south after a promising start.
“Sad. You know, Prithvi, I still say now he is as talented a player as I probably ever worked with. He goes unsold in the auction and then doesn’t even come back in the accelerator. And there are a lot of teams here that are looking at him. He’s not playing. But as I said, the game catches up with you. So, yeah, I guess that. Yeah, that’s about all you can say,” Ponting said, via The Business Standard.
Meanwhile, Shaw was once again trolled on social media when he was seen dancing with his family and friends. The Mumbai batter admitted he keeps an eye on his criticism but also gets hurt by it.
“I feel like trolling is not a good thing, but it is not such a bad thing either. If people make memes on me, I see them as well. I sometimes get hurt,” Shaw said on the Focused Indian YouTube channel.
Shaw will look to get big runs in the domestic circuit to once again prove his mettle.
