Things will come full circle for maverick wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant during the upcoming Test series against England for it was here that he made his Test debut for India almost three years ago. Pant’s career took off from that point and despite a few lows since then, he has continued to wow the world with his impressive brand of fearless and aggressive batting.
He’s arriving to this particular Test series with a lot of reputation and after a near-spectacular year. Pant masterminded the historic heist in Gabba, leading India to their second consecutive overseas victory in Australia. He also dominated England during the Test series at home and who could forget his audacious attempt of reverse-lapping Jimmy Anderson bowling with the new ball for a boundary?
Pant recently spoke on BCCI.tv and shared several details about his journey in international cricket thus far. He also shed light on the seniors in the squad he quite often turns to for help and advice. When it comes to batting, the 23-year-old doesn’t have to look too far. With names as illustrious as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room, it comes as no surprise that the youngster is in excellent company.
While Rohit helps Pant with his game analysis and understanding how he could’ve dealt with stuff better, Kohli advises him on the more technical aspects of batting.
“All the seniors and coaching staff, like, I talk to Rohit bhai a lot. Talking about the game, previous matches, what we could have done, what we could not have done. In the future, if a similar situation happens, what are the possible outcomes, what more can we add). Virat bhaiya is there to help me out with the technical stuff, especially about playing in England, standing a bit forward or back,” Pant said.
The boy from Delhi also went on to mention the names of Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and head coach Ravi Shastri who help him in various other ways.
“Ravi bhai (head coach Ravi Shastri) is also there, I speak to him a lot because he has played enough cricket all over the world, he has the idea,” Pant added.
“Ash bhai (Ravichandran Ashwin), he always has an idea about what the batsman could do. So, when he bowls, as a batsman I can ask him what he’s thinking. So, as a player, I just want to learn from each and every person.”
