Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has noted that Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad loses his form at the right time. Gaikwad scored a fine knock of 105 runs off just 83 balls in the second ODI against South Africa but he was not included in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have made their comebacks.
Meanwhile, Gaikwad has scored 413 runs in seven matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 83.60 and has been in rich form in the domestic tournament. However, Uthappa urged Gaikwad to carry his good form when it matters the most.
“I have noticed one thing with Ruturaj. At the right time, he loses his form a bit. In Indian cricket, it is important to strike when the iron is hot. His time came two to three times and his form got slightly off. So for the form to stay, to get the opportunities at the right time, it has to sit properly,” Robin Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, Uthappa said Sanju Samson is in a good space and he is excited for the World Cup. Samson will open the innings with Abhishek Sharma in the upcoming marquee event.
“Sanju is in a strong state and a good place now. He is very excited for the World Cup. The preparation is going good and he is doing as much as needed. Many players look to prepare more, but you should only do how much will help you. Do not deplete your resources. Just because it is a World Cup, no need to change what has worked for you in terms of preparations. Stick to the same, and then you can maintain your performances,” he said.
India will play five T20Is against New Zealand before the T20 World Cup.
