Former Pakistan gun fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has showered praise on selfless Rohit Sharma. Akhtar feels Rohit deserves to win the T20 World Cup as he has been superb, both as a batter as well as a captain. Rohit scored a fine knock of 57 runs off 39 balls against England in the second semifinal in the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Providence Stadium, Guyana on Thursday.
This was the 32nd T20I fifty for Rohit Sharma as he got there off just 36 balls. The Indian opener also added a crucial alliance of 73 runs off 50 balls with Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 47 runs off 36 balls.
Thus, his impressive knock helped India post an above-par score of 171 runs on the board after they were put into bat by England captain Jos Buttler.
Rohit is currently the third-highest run-getter in the ongoing T20I showpiece as he has scored 248 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 41.33 and an even more impressive strike rate of 155.97. The right-hander has walked the talk and has led from the front.
“I was always in favour of India winning the tournament. I was hurt last year when India could not win the World Cup as they should not have lost it because they deserved to win,” Shoaib Akhtar said on his official YouTube channel.
“Rohit Sharma has repeatedly said he wants to make an impact and win the trophy and so, deserves to win the cup. He is a big player, and it should end on a big note. He is a selfless captain, plays for the team and is a complete batter,” Akhtar added.
Rohit has been taking the attack to the opposition bowlers from the get-go and has reaped rewards. The veteran has all the experience under his belt and he is going to hold the key in the summit clash.
India will take on South Africa in the all-important final at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday.
