Indian captain Rohit Sharma showered praise on Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul for their impressive knocks in the third Test match against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane on Wednesday, which ended in a draw after continuous rain interruptions.
After Australia posted a par score of 445 runs on the board, India was under fire at 74-5 in the first innings. However, Rahul and Jadeja added a crucial alliance of 67 runs. While the Indian opener scored another impressive knock of 84 runs, the Indian all-rounder scored a fine innings of 77 runs in his debut knock of the series.
Thus, the duo played an instrumental role in helping India avoid the follow-on and get past the 246-run mark. Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah was once again outstanding as took nine wickets in the match to continued his purple patch.
Moreover, Akash Deep also impressed with the ball but didn’t have the rub of the green on his side in the first essay. More importantly, Deep scored a crucial knock of 31 runs and addd 47 runs for the tenth wicket with Bumrah to help India avoid the follow-on.
Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, “Credit to Jadeja, the way he played and Rahul, the way he played was magnificent at the top of the order. the fight that Akash Deep and Bumrah was great to watch, we have seen them work so hard at the nets (on their batting).”
Lauding Indian bowlers, Rohit said, “Coming to the bowling, Bumrah was outstanding, Akash Deep is a feisty cricketer, always wants to be involved in the game, very new to international cricket, he has worked hard at the nets, still new to international cricket, but he has put in the hard yards, there are people in the group to put their hand across and help him going forward. As he showed with the bat, these are the sort of characters we needed in the team.”
The fourth Test match between India and Australia will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th December.
