Indian opener Rohit Sharma has revealed that the main goal is to win the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit led India to the final of the 2023 ODI showpiece but his team could not cross the last hurdle against Australia in the summit clash at Ahmedabad.
The veteran has played an instrumental role in changing India’s approach in the white-ball formats and led from the front. Meanwhile, Rohit has been in decent form, scoring 202 runs against Australia in three games in 2025. He then scored 146 runs in as many games against South Africa but had a quiet series against New Zealand.
Rohit said winning the ODI World Cup used to be the pinnacle of the sport when he was rising through the ranks. The Indian batter was not part of the 2011 World Cup winning team and he wants to add the ODI World Cup trophy to his glittering cabinet.
“I definitely want to go out there and win the World Cup for my country. That is something that I’ve always looked upon. I’ve grown up watching this 50-over World Cup. There was no T20 World Cup, no IPL back then and that was the pinnacle of cricket which used to happen every four years. So there was desperation, there was so much weight for that one trophy and yeah I really want that trophy so I’m gonna try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it,” said Rohit Sharma in the video on social media.
Rohit has all the experience and he would want to make the most of it in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The next year’s World Cup will be co-hosted by South Africa and Namibia.
