Indian batter Rohit Sharma said it is always tough to play against Australia as their players never give an inch to the opposition. Australia won the three-match ODI series by 2-1 against India after the hosts won the first two games.
However, the visitors won the third game by nine wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. Chasing 237 runs for the win, Rohit scored an unbeaten knock of 121 runs off 125 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes.
Furthermore, Virat Kohli played a crucial knock of 74 runs off 81 balls and added 168 runs with Rohit Sharma. Moreover, Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with impressive figures of 4-39 in 8.4 overs he bowled.
“They are a tough opposition as we have seen over the years, the way they play their cricket, they really enjoy their cricket, they really enjoy being out there in the middle and it is nice to compete with guys like these,” Rohit said on BCCI.
“They never let anything come to you easy, you always have to work really really hard for it,” Rohit added.
“Being here, and playing with the guys so many times it is very important to stand up and get the best out of whatever experience that you have against these guys,” the former Indian skipper said.
Rohit gave gratitude to the Australian crowd, which turned out in full numbers for the ODI series.
“In Australia, the crowd never disappoints, they come out in large numbers to watch cricket because with two good teams playing they want to watch quality cricket, and that is what you get with these two teams,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t cross the line but we enjoy coming here and playing here and really grateful to the crowd for their support throughout Australia they have been superb and I hope they continue to do that we’ve got the T20 series coming up and I hope to continue to do that with each one of them who are going to represent the country, its a great ocassion and I wish them the best,” the 38-year-old said.
Rohit will be next seen in action in a three-match ODI series against South Africa.
