India’s veteran batter Rohit Sharma wants India to be the powerhouse of world cricket. In the last couple of years, India has won the big titles at all levels in men’s and women’s cricket.
The winning streak started when India won the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Then, the Men in Blue won the Champions Trophy in 2025. Subsequently, the women’s team under Harmanpreet Kaur won their maiden ODI World Cup title.
The Under-19 team went on to win the World Cup crown under Ayush Mhatre’s leadership. Last but not least, India won the 2026 T20 World Cup in home conditions. Rohit just wants this winning streak to continue in the coming tournaments.
“I want India to be the powerhouse of world cricket… that is the bottom line, as I want India to be the best and cricket is right up there. What we have done in the last three years has been superb to watch. From the 2024 World Cup, Women’s World Cup, U19 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and another T20 World Cup. I hope we continue our winning streak,” Rohit said while speaking at Mumbai Indians’ ESA Day event.
Rohit also shed light on the drastic change in the T20 format. The MI veteran added earlier that 130-140 used to be a par score, but now scores of more than 200 runs have become the norm.
“When we started, 130-140 was a good score, but currently it is difficult. Now, any score one gets does not seem to be very convincing. That is the story which tells you how the game has gone about through the years,” he said.
The former Indian skipper highlighted that players have become more fearless in their approach.
“People have become more fearless, open-minded on how they should go about doing things, which is a good sign for the sport, game and league. The players are not afraid to take a step forward rather than being conservative. In the coming years too, that is how it will keep going, it will reach greater heights,” he said.
Rohit was dismissed for a duck against RR on Sunday.
