Pretoria Capitals captain Wayne Parnell feels his team made a couple of silly errors while chasing 169 runs against Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Tuesday. Parnell believes the opposition was 10-15 runs short of a par score and they should have been able to chase down the score.
JSK posted a fighting score of 168 runs on the board after Wayne Parnell won the toss and decided to bowl first. Leus du Plooy scored an unbeaten knock of 75 runs from 40 balls to help his team go past the 160-run mark.
However, no Pretoria Capitals was able to go past the 30-run mark as the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
In fact, almost all of the Capitals’ batters got off to decent starts but none of them could convert them into substantial scores. On the other hand, Aaron Phangiso was the pick of the bowlers for JSK as he scalped four wickets in his quota of four overs.
Wayne Parnell said in the post-match presentation, “Just unforced errors really. Still feel they were 15 runs short. But we made couple of silly errors. Pitch was slow early on but got better under lights. We probably played good cricket for most of the match. Made errors at crucial stages.”
Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis had a different opinion and he thought 168 was a par score on the pitch.
He said after the game, “Love a tight one. We’re either getting hammered or it’s a close game. Today looked a lot better. 100 percent the nature of the pitch (intent at the start). Thought 170 was par. We know the wicket plays better in the evening. Needed one just for the boys to get their chests out. Great crowd – reminded me of international games. Thank you everyone, it was awesome.”
On the other hand, Leus du Plooy was awarded Player of the Match for his fine knock, which helped JSK post 168 runs on the board.
He said, “Was about assessing conditions as quick as possible. Faf and Reeza got us off to a great start. Made our job easier. I just try to stick to what my game is and that is to bring good intent to the crease. They bowled brilliantly up front; luckily we got momentum at the back end. Thought we were 10 runs light. Will be up for tomorrow.”
