Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has showered praise on Ajinkya Rahane after latter’s international retirement. The Mumbai batter played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is for India while also featured in 212 IPL games for six teams. Rahane amassed 5077 Test runs at an average of 38.46, including 12 centuries, out of which eight came in overseas conditions
He also led India to a memorable Border-Gavaskar series win against Australia in 2020-21 after the visitors lost the opening Test at Adelaide, following their 36-run second innings collapse
“Congratulations on a remarkable career, @ajinkyarahane88. The first time we batted together for Mumbai, I saw someone who never chased moments. They came to you because you were willing to do the hard yards for the team. That same quality defined your finest hour in Australia. You showed that composure isn’t the opposite of aggression. It is often what gives a team the confidence to be fearless. Congratulations on a wonderful career! Wishing you and your family all the very best,” wrote Tendulkar on X.
Rahane captained India in six Tests matcheas, winning four of them and not losing even once.
On the other hand, former Indian players like Irfan Pathan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh also congratulated Ajinkya Rahane on a glorious career. KL Rahul and former Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav also hailed Rahane after his retirement.
“Congratulations jinks on a remarkable career! One of the finest from this generation to represent the country in all formats and also lead successfully in some of the most prestigious games! You did well at every opportunity and here’s wishing you good luck for what comes next! Shakalaka baby ✨,” Yuvraj wrote on Instagram.
“Congratulations @ajinkyarahane88 on your wonderful career. Thank you for some outstanding Australian memories on the cricketing field. Good luck for the future buddy,” Pathan posted on X.
Rahane said in his retirement post that he would love to share his insights with the young generation.
