England all-rounder Sam Curran believes handling the pressure would be biggest challenge for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi amid the ongoing five-match T20I series. Sooryavanshi, 15, has done an incredible job in his young career and he has shown all the skills to go a long way in his career.
The youngster amassed 776 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 at a whirlwind strike rate of 237.30 for Rajasthan Royals and thus played a key role in taking the franchise to the playoffs. The prodigy batter was then given his maiden T20I call-up by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel for the UK tour but he is yet to make his debut.
Sam Curran told reporters ahead of 2nd T20I against India, “Being an Indian cricketer in India is much bigger than who we are. How he handles that will be his biggest challenge. He has played only one or two IPL seasons and is straight into the Indian squad. I am sure there are people around him to help but you never know how he’ll do until he is given his debut. I am sure he is going to have ups and downs like anybody else.”
“Playing for India at 15 is such a cool story that even as an opposition, you’ve to admire his skills. He’s getting so much attention but it’ll be interesting as in England, maybe he’s playing on a slow surface and it might be a bit different. But it’s special what he is doing.”
Curran said he was rocking at Surrey school when he was 15 and he wants Sooryavanshi to keep his head down while playing at the top level.
“It’s cool what he’s doing at 15. I think I was just rocking in the Surrey individual school at 15. And here he is smacking it around Ahmedabad and places like that. Hopefully he can just keep his head down because even I like watching him play, unless it’s against my bowling,” said Curran (via the aforementioned source).
The first T20I between India and England was called off due to rain.
