Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal for scoring a fine century in the fifth Test match against England at Kennington Oval, London. Jaiswal scored a brilliant knock of 118 runs off 164 balls, which was his second century of the series.
The southpaw batted at the top of his game and also added a crucial alliance of 107 runs with Akash Deep to help India strengthen their lead.
Jaiswal amassed 411 runs in five Test matches against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar series at an average of 41.11.
Bangar compared Jaiswal’s batting with former swashbuckling batter Virender Sehwag.
Sanjay Bangar said on ESPN Cricinfo, “I remember when Virender Sehwag used to give those starts, things looked different in the dressing room. The entire energy of the dressing room changed. It’s not only the impact that he has for himself, but also makes the job easier for the batsmen to follow. That’s the value of the contribution that he gives at the start when he bats aggressively.”
The former Indian all-rounder said Jaiswal was able to get the best out of Akash Deep, who scored a fine knock of 66 runs.
“When he bats in a slightly controlled manner, you could also see that he can he can bring the best out of a lower-order batter, which he did with Akash Deep,” Bangar went on to add.
India has set a target of 374 runs, and England are 166-3 on the fourth day with Harry Brook and Joe Root at the crease.
