Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar rated Jasprit Bumrah’s performance as 7/10 after the Men in Blue registered a comprehensive seven-wicket win against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the ongoing Asia Cup on Sunday.
Bumrah returned with figures of 2-28 in his quota of four overs against the arch rivals. The ace pacer accounted for Mohammad Harris in his first over and then dismissed Sufiyan Muqeem with a yorker in the death overs. Thus, he played an instrumental role in restricting Pakistan to 127-9 in their 20 overs.
Sanjay Bangar said on ESPN Cricinfo, “Jasprit Bumrah bowled his entire quota. I think he conceded 26 runs. He also bagged a wicket, so I would give him 7/10.”
Bangar said all-rounder Hardik Pandya can bowl two overs in the Powerplay overs.
“It’s all about the combination and the way Suryakumar Yadav is using Hardik Pandya. I think he can bowl his two overs in the first six because Surya is bowling three from Jasprit Bumrah,” he said in another video.
Meanwhile, Indian openers – Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill – once again gave a blistering start to their team with the former hitting Shaheen Shah Afridi for a four and a six on the first two balls. Sharma scored a blistering knock of 31 runs off just 13 balls and thus gave a perfect start to the team.
Speaking on India’s aggressive batting approach, Bangar said, “India lost openers early, but it’s a part of the new template. It’s helping the team as well because we get an aggressive start. If an impactful innings comes at the top, then the work gets slightly easier for the middle order.”
India will next take on Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday.
