Sanjay Manjrekar slams Glenn Maxwell after PBKS loss to RR in IPL 2025

    April 7, 2025

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has lashed out at Glenn Maxwell over his inconsistent performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Maxwell was roped in for INR 4.2 crore by Punjab Kings in the mega auction but he hasn’t made his mark with the bat so far in the tournament.

Maxwell could not convert his start into a big score against Rajasthan Royals when PBKS were chasing 206 runs for the win. The Australian was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana after scoring 30 runs off 21 balls.

In the opening match of the season for PBKS against Gujarat Titans, Maxwell was plumbed in front for a golden duck by Sai Kishore.

“Halley’s Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. It’s the same case with Maxwell in batting. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet of Cricket,” Manjrekar said on JioHotstar.

Maxwell has scored 2801 runs in 137 IPL matches at a sub-par average of 24.57 and a strike rate of 156.49.

In IPL 2024, the right-hander could only score 52 runs in 10 matches at an average of 5.78 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ergo, the franchise decided not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Meanwhile, PBKS suffered their first loss of the season against Rajasthan Royals as they managed 155-9 while chasing the target of 206. PBKS will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday.
