Indian opener Sanju Samson revealed that he doesn’t bother about the outside noise after the first T20I against New Zealand, which the visitors won by four wickets at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Thursday.
Samson said he doesn’t play the game with a mindset to prove others wrong and he doesn’t wan to succumb to social media pressure. The Indian opener scored a blistering knock of 67 runs off 33 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Samson reached his 11th fifty off just 23 balls and added 93 runs off 35 balls with Abhishek Sharma to put India in a good position in the run-chase.
Sanju Samson said in the post-match press conference, “I don’t know what people are taking on the outside. To be honest, you cannot think what social media is saying or what the other people are saying. You just have to be in the process, be in a very different environment. Playing for Indian cricket is not easy. There is lot of noise happening. Lot of people have their own comments. But I don’t play this game with the mindset of proving people wrong.”
Samson, on the other hand, also downplayed India’s hectic scheduling at the top level. The Kerala batter expressed his gratitude to be playing at the highest level for the country and getting top facilities.
He concluded, “Last couple of months, we have been playing a lot of games. But I feel very lucky that we are playing games. I would prefer playing games instead of not playing games. We have been working a lot on our fitness after the England series. Physically, we are in a great state. Mentally also, we have been taken care of. We travel in business class, stay in big hotels, so everything is great.”
The second T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Saturday.
