India’s veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not losing sleep over his selection in the national team. Kumar was not picked for the UK tour despite performining consistently in the recently concluded IPL 2026.
Kumar ended IPL 2026 with 28 scalps (second highest wicket-taker) in 16 matches at an average of 17.89 and an economy rate of 7.95 and thus played a key role in taking RCB to glory for the second consecutive time.
Furthermore, Kumar returned with impressive figures of 2-29 in his quota of four overs against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final. The veteran seamer accounted for Sai Sudharsan and Jason Holder but was ignored in the 16-man squad for the UK tour.
“It’s my nature that I don’t want to show that I want to play,” Bhuvneshwar told The Indian Express. “I think everyone is doing their job. Selectors are doing their job. I’m doing my job. It’s their responsibility to select. If they think I’m good enough, they will do their job.”
The UP seamer expressed his gratitude after having played for India at the top level.
“I have played, I have done what I had to do. If I hadn’t played, I would have been dying to be asked to play a match. I think it’s a big thing to play for India, I won’t say it’s a small thing, I’m one of the lucky ones that I have played,” he said.
Kumar also recalled his ODI debut for India when he cleaned up Pakistan’s batter Mohammad Hafeez with an inswinging delivery.
“I don’t think I have got the ball to swing as much as that debut wicket. I don’t even know how I did that much swing bowling,” Bhuvneshwar said of his iconic delivery.
Kumar would look to carry the good form in the domestic circuit.
