India’s versatile all-rounder, Shardul Thakur, has successfully undergone foot surgery on Wednesday, June 12, marking the second surgery for the cricketer in the past five years. The 32-year-old shared the news with his fans on Instagram, posting a photo of himself post-surgery with the caption, “Operated successfully.”
This development comes as a setback for the Indian cricket team, as Thakur is expected to be sidelined from competitive cricket for a minimum of three months.
Thakur, who sustained his injury during the South Africa tour earlier this year, last represented India in the first Test at Centurion, where the team suffered a significant defeat against the Proteas. Despite his injury woes, Thakur’s contribution to Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign were commendable, playing a pivotal role in securing the team’s 42nd title.
Reflecting on his recent performances, Thakur’s stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was less than stellar. He managed to take only five wickets from nine matches, with an economy rate of 9.75. The surgery was performed by the same physician who previously operated on India’s right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami in London.
