India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Indian Premier League players Prabhsimran Singh and Ramandeep Singh are among the star attractions set to feature in the upcoming Sher-e-Punjab T20 League.
The tournament was officially unveiled on Sunday with the launch of its logo at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The competition will be held from August 30 to September 13 and is expected to showcase some of Punjab’s leading cricketers alongside emerging talent.
While several marquee names are expected to participate, Gill and pacer Gurnoor Brar will join the league after completing national duty with the Indian team in Sri Lanka, where they are scheduled to remain until August 28.
Speaking at the launch event, Gill highlighted the importance of the competition in developing the next generation of cricketers from the state. He said the league would provide aspiring players with an opportunity to prove themselves and move closer to representing Punjab and eventually India.
“It is going to be a great platform for all of them,” Gill said during the ceremony.
The launch event was attended by Punjab Cricket Association president Amarjeet Mehta and secretary Gurmeet Singh, marking the official beginning of preparations for the inaugural edition of the tournament.
The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will feature six teams competing across 27 matches in a round-robin format before the title is decided. Tournament organisers have also outlined squad composition rules, with every franchise required to include one marquee player and at least two icon players in its lineup.
The competition is expected to combine established international and IPL performers with promising domestic cricketers, offering young players a chance to share the dressing room with some of the biggest names in Punjab cricket. With Gill, Arshdeep, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Ramandeep Singh among those set to take the field, the league is poised to attract significant attention when it gets underway at the end of August.
As preparations gather pace following the logo launch, organisers will now turn their focus to assembling the six franchises ahead of the tournament’s opening match on August 30.
