India’s ODI skipper Shubman Gill has revealed he had a major conversation with Virat Kohli regarding the ODI World Cup’s planning ahead of the three-match ODI series against England. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be played in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

India recently registered a 3-0 win against Afghanistan at home, and they will want to carry the same momentum into English conditions.

Experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will hold the key for India in the ODI showpiece. 

“We were talking about the combination. Which combination would be best for us, which players are there who may not be in the team right now but can help us in the future, which bowlers, which all-rounders, which spinners. We were talking about all of that,” the India captain said during the pre-series press conference.

“Our preparation for the (2027) World Cup is very different. Our mindset is to see what kind of combination we can try. The wickets we are likely to get in South Africa will be similar to what we get here, so this is a very important series for us,” he added.

Gill added that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remain an integral part of the team ahead of the World Cup.

“Virat bhai (Kohli) and Rohit bhai (Sharma) have been the backbone of the Indian batting line-up for the past decade. They remain a very integral part of our team. The experience and skill they bring are obviously very valuable,” the skipper asserted.

The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
