Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill reckons the T20I series loss won’t have any impact on the team ahead of the ODI series against England. India was stunned 0-2 by Ireland and then suffered a 0-4 series loss against England in T20Is.
However, India would look to get back to winning ways and would welcome the experienced players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah.
India recently registered a 3-0 ODI series win against Afghanistan but there is no doubt that they will have their work cut out against a potent England side while playing away from home.
“I don’t think it will have any impact. It’s a different format, a different team and a different goal. It’s a different atmosphere and it will be a different feeling,” Gill said during the pre-series press conference.
“It’s not like we have an unsettled XI. But you have to give chances to new players. The more experience they get in pressure situations, the better it will be for us before the World Cup,” Gill added.
Gill added that they wanted seam-bowling all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana to play as many games as possible. However, the trio is currently out of action due to respective injuries.
“We wanted players like them to play as many matches as possible before the World Cup so that when their opportunity comes, they feel settled. I don’t think there are any concerning areas. It’s not like we have an unsettled XI. But you have to give chances to new players. The more experience they get in pressure situations and the more they perform, the better it will be for us before the World Cup,” Shubman Gill concluded.
The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
