India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has revealed that Rinku Singh will rejoin the team on Wednesday evening ahead of the Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe. Singh had left the team on Tuesday due to a medical emergency, as his father was not doing well.
Thus, there were doubts about Singh’s participation in the match against Zimbabwe. Rinku was dismissed for a second-ball duck against South Africa in the previous game, but didn’t get to face a lot of deliveries in the group stage.
“Rinku will come back today evening,” Sitanshu Kotak confirmed during the pre-match press conference. (via RevSportz).
On the other hand, Kotak revealed that there can be changes to India’s playing XI as the opposition is targeting the top three left-handers with off-spinners.
“There can be changes in the game. We are thinking of the top three left-handers and the oppositions bowling off spin. Now that we have lost openers early in 3 matches, we are talking about it. The No. 8 position, we think is for all-rounders,” Sitanshu Kotak explained.
Kotak also squashed any concerns regarding Tilak Varma’s strike rate. Varma has managed 107 runs in five matches of the World Cup at an average of 21.40 and a strike rate of 118.88. The left-hander wasn’t able to convert his starts into substantial scores in the group stage.
“There are no issue s with how Tilak is batting. He batted well against Pakistan. For Tilak, it is a matter of two boundaries (on his strike rate). There’s no concern about his run a ball innings. There is no tension regarding Abhishek, Tilak or even the loss against SA,” the Indian coach added.
India will next take on Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Thursday.
