India’s vice-captain in white Shubman Gill has hailed newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, stating his intent and communication have been very clear since he has taken over the role. Gambhir has taken over the coaching baton from Rahul Dravid and the upcoming Sri Lanka series will be his maiden assignment.
This is the first time when Gill is working under the tutelage of Gautam Gambhir and the youngster said the former Indian opener has been spot on.
Gambhir is known for his aggressive approach and he will look to get the best out of his players in his stint.
“We have had just two net sessions together, and this is the first time I am working with him. But whatever he has told me during these two sessions, his intent and communication have been very clear – he knows what he wants from which player, and what he thinks will work for each player,” said in the press conference ahead of Sri Lanka series.
Gill added that head coach Gambhir and newly appointed T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav are on the same page.
“I think the line of thinking and mindset (of Suryakumar and Gambhir) are on the same page. I had played under Surya Bhai in South Africa too. Their understanding is similar and I think you’ll get to see the effects on the field as well,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gill recently led India to a 4-1 series win against Zimbabwe, scoring 170 runs in five matches to lead from the front. Gill will look to keep up the good form on the Sri Lanka tour.
The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
