Australian talismanic batter Steve Smith has picked Yashasvi Jaiswal as the generational superstar for India and feels the left-hander could be the next big thing in Indian cricket. While the likes of Smith, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Alex Carey, and Nathan Lyon picked Yashasvi Jaiswal as India’s next generational superstar, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green picked Shubman Gill.
Jaiswal was on song throughout the five-match Test series against England earlier in the year. The southpaw scored 712 runs in five matches at an outstanding average of 89 and an impressive strike rate of 79.91. Thus, he was awarded Player of the Series as India won the series by 4-1.
However, the upcoming tour of Australia will be Jaiswal’s first Test series against Australia and it will be interesting to note how he adapts to the bouncy pitches.
“Jaiswal could be a generational superstar,” Smith confidently stated in a video uploaded by Star Sports on X, while Starc echoed the sentiment, adding, “Jaiswal’s probably the next big superstar, I think.”
“Jaiswal looks like a proper cricketer for all formats,” said Hazlewood.
Jaiswal has made a promising start to his Test career and he has definitely shown the skills to go a long way in his career. The left-hander has scored 1028 runs in nine Test matches at an average of 68.53 and has an impressive strike rate of 70.07.
The attacking batter has scored 723 runs in 23 T20I matches at an average of 36.15 and a blistering strike rate of 164.32.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
