Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad reckons the presence of Virat Kohli will add a shot in the arm for the Indian team ahead of the ODI series against England. India recently suffered six T20I losses on the trot and would aim to get back to winning ways.
Broad said experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will have similar impact as Virat Kohli. The trio has performed consistently for India and they are going to hold the key in English conditions.
Kohli recently scored 675 runs in IPL 2026 for RCB but was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury, which he suffered in the IPL final against Gujarat Titans.
Stuart Broad said on For the Love of Cricket YouTube Channel, “You bring the intensity of Virat Kohli into the squad and it lifts everything. Everyone else seemingly performs better because you’ve got a hero of Indian cricket in Kohli. And Rohit and Bumrah have similar impacts. So it’ll be a different challenge for England in the ODIs.”
Broad is hopeful that Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t left out of the T20I series against England because of his poor run in IPL 2026. Bumrah could only take four wickets for Mumbai Indians however he was most likely rested for the T20I series.
“I hope he (Bumrah) wasn’t left out for the T20Is against England because he had a really bad IPL with only four wickets. You would like to think he wasn’t dropped and it was only a rest,” said Broad (via the aforementioned source).
The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
