Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath showered praise on Jamie Overton after Chennai Super Kings all-rounder impressed in the ongoing IPL 2026. CSK was knocked out of the tournament after suffering an 89-run loss against Gujarat Titans on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Overton was one of the biggest positives for CSK. Overton scored 136 runs in six innings at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 154.13.
More importantly, he scalped 14 wickets in 10 games at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89 in IPL 2026. The English all-rounder was eventually ruled out with a hamstring injury for the last few games.
Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “Jamie Overton overachieved this season. Similarly, Akeal Hosein was underutilized but overachieved. Even Anshul Kamboj overachieved for the most part. No one would have predicted that he would be in the Purple Cap leaderboard anytime in the season.”
Badrinath added that the trio of Sanju Samson, Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel were the positives with the bat.
“Samson and Mhatre were the positives with the bat. Urvil Patel proved he is an X-factor and worthy of his price. Though he seems to slog blindly, he gives the belief that he’ll win you a match somewhere,” he stated.
Samson top-scored in the season for CSK with 477 runs in 14 games whereas Mhatre and Patel scored 201 and 129 runs respectively.
The former CSK batter, Badrinath, added that South African batter Dewald Brevis was a massive letdown this season.
“Dewald Brevis was a massive letdown this season. CSK trusted him a lot. But the question is, though he was in bad form, was he played at the correct position? The lack of clarity over MS Dhoni was another negative,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).
Brevis could only manage 151 runs in eight innings.
