India’s football legend Sunil Chhetri has put his weight behind Virat Kohli to bounce back to form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 100 runs in the second innings at Perth but could not replicate the same form in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide.
The talisman returned with scores of 7 and 11 in the second Test and could not deliver the goods. Chhetri, who shares a close bonhomie with Virat Kohli, recalled that the former Indian captain has given some great performances for India and he will be soon back at his absolute best.
In the last five years, Kohli has played 36 Test matches, in which he has scored 1961 runs at an average of 32.14.
Sunil Chhetri said while talking to ANI, “Who told you he is going through a rough patch? He will be fine. He has given the country so many amazing days, amazing wins. Just be patient, he will be fine. Just enjoy watching him.”
Chhetri, who recently scored a hat-trick against Kerala Blasters FC in the ISL, praised Kohli’s attitude irrespective of the form.
“When you see him on the pitch, on the ground, you see a distinctly different personality as compared to others. Look at his longevity. Look at the way he runs between the wickets. Look at the way he applies himself.”
“Talent is one thing, but if he doesn’t take care of himself, which he does tremendously well, he will not be able to do what he’s doing. I mean, when did you see him last not giving his best or not being fit? Making runs and not making runs is a different part,” Chhetri stated.
Virat Kohli could only manage 93 runs in three Test matches against New Zealand at an average of 15.50 despite playing at home. The former Indian captain could only manage 99 runs in two Test matches against Bangladesh.
The third Test match between India and Australia will be played at the Gabba, Brisbane from December 14.
