Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has picked England all-rounder Will Jacks as a huge asset for England ahead of the semifinal clash against India. Gavaskar said Jacks is someone like Shivam Dube, who is delivering the goods while batting down the order.
Will Jacks has scalped seven wickets in six innings and has also added the finishing touches for England. Thus, the all-rounder has done a decent job for Harry Brook’s team in the ongoing T20I showpiece.
Jacks will definitely come in handy as India’s top order left-handers have struggled to get going against off-spin in the ongoing tournament.
Sunil Gavaskar said at DP World Celebrity Golf event, “It’s just like having Shivam Dube. What we saw in India’s match against the West Indies, Dube came and hit two boundaries in one over to put the pressure off (from his team).
“He is on a roll, and sometimes you have a tournament where everything is going right for you. Even with the bat, he is scoring handy runs for his team down the order. To have somebody like him batting at number seven is a real plus for England.”
The former Indian captain urged India to be wary of Will Jacks if there is turn on offer at the Wankhede. India had found themselves behind the eighth-ball at 77-6 at the same venue against the USA.
“If there is a turn in the Wankhede pitch, he could be a handful. So, maybe how Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, or Hardik Pandya will handle him is going to be a key feature.”
“Maybe he might not get to bowl too many deliveries to the left-handers in the team, whether it is Abhishek, Tilak, Dube, or someone from down the order. The right-handers have to do more batting against him.”
India will take on England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday.
