Sunil Gavaskar takes a dig at Harry Brook, asks if Lahore’s floodlights are in good condition

    February 28, 2025

Legendary Sunil Gavakar took a dig at England batter Harry Brook after the right-hander was dismissed cheaply, scoring only 25 runs in a must-win contest against Afghanistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday.

Gavaskar asked former Pakistan’s fast bowler Wasim Akram if lights at the stadium were in good condition. Brook was caught and bowled by Afghanistan’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and could not convert his start in the run-case of 326.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar recalled that Brook said he could not pick up Indian spinners due to smog in Kolkata. Brook scored 50 runs in three ODIs against India whereas he managed only 91 runs in five T20Is against the hosts.

Speaking to Sports Central, Gavaskar said, “That Harry Brook’s dismissal—is the light and everything working fine in Lahore? When he played in Kolkata, he said that he could not see clearly because of smog. The way he gave catching practice, I thought Lahore had some bad floodlight light issues too.”

The former Indian captain reckons England are the first ones to make excuses for their losses.

“They will still come and start mourning the next morning. See they cannot lose. If they lose there has to be an excuse and the excuse cannot be that they weren’t better that day or the other team was better, they will start blaming everything. They will start blaming India also because India are playing all their matches in Dubai and why are we not playing our matches at one venue,” said Gavaskar.

English experts such as Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton have said that India holds an advantage as they are playing all their matches in Dubai.

England will play their final match of the tournament against South Africa at the National Stadium, Karachi on Saturday.
