Former Chennai Super Kings batter Suresh Raina has slammed Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League. Many players, including the great Sachin Tendulkar, have downvoted the idea of the Impact Player in the past.

Recently, the BCCI have written to all 10 franchises regarding their take on the Impact Player rule. The Impact Player rule was introduced in the IPL in the 2023 season and since then the rule has received mix reactions from experts.

The extra player has allowed the franchises to consistently score more than 220 runs and many feel India is not been able to develop their all-rounders because of the rule.

“I am against the Impact player rule. A lot of fit players also bat and just sit down. There is nothing left for the bowlers. It is tough for bowlers. Even 300 is being scored. With extra batters, there will be pressure on the bowlers,” Suresh Raina said on a podcast with former India batter Aakash Chopra.

On the other hand, Raina added that Indian players should not be allowed to take part in the foreign leagues. Currently, the BCCI doesn’t allow its contracted players to play in other leagues across the globe. Indian players who have announced their retirement from all formats of the game, can ply their trade in leagues other than the IPL.

“I feel Indian players should not be allowed now. Our league has become very big. When we used to go to tours before, I used to ask this. I had come close to playing as well, but then they said no. Now a lot of outside players come here, and the quality of foreign leagues has also gone down. Back then, I would have definitely said yes. But at this time, we are ruling the world,” the CSK legend said.

Raina scored 4687 runs in 176 IPL matches.
