India’s T20 World Cup winning captain Suryakumar Yadav has put his weight behind opener Abhishek Sharma to bounce back strongly into form after a poor tour to Zimbabwe. Sharma could only manage 11 runs in three games against the hosts at an average of 3.67.

Furthermore, the left-hander scored 131 runs in five T20Is against England at an average of 26.20 and a strike rate of 177.03 and thus his current form is a cause of concern for the team.

As Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was able to grab his opportunity with both hands and with Sanju Samson waiting in the wings, pressure will definitely rise on Abhishek after he had a mundane series against the Chevrons.

After India clinched the series against Zimbabwe, Abhishek wrote in a post on Instagram, “It hurts when you can’t give back what so many people believe you’re capable of. But this game always rewards those who keep showing up. Happy that the team got the win. Will be back stronger 🇮🇳.”

However, Suryakumar Yadav was quick to put his weight behind India’s T20I opener.

Abhishek has been a consistent performer for India in the last two years in the shortest format and he would definitely look to bounce back strongly.

The left-hander from Punjab has scored 1692 runs in 56 T20Is at an average of 30.74 and a blistering strike rate of 187.25.
