Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has picked Suryakumar Yadav as his Player of the tournament in the T20 World Cup despite the semifinals and finals being yet to be played. SKY has been in form of his life as he scored another blistering knock of 61 runs off just 25 balls to continue his dream run.
The 32-year-old has scored 225 runs in five matches at an average of 75 and a whirlwind strike rate of 193.97. Yadav has made a deep impact on the game in three matches, in which he has scored half-centuries, and India has won two games.
The talisman has the skills to get going from the word go and it is almost impossible to bowl to him as he plays with the field and can score all around the ground. Yadav has all the shots in the book and he is batting at the height of his powers.
Gautam Gambhir reckons Suryakumar Yadav is having a deep impact on the game with his exhilarating batting.
“We have spoken a lot about him. Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are very orthodox. Suryakumar is different. India haven’t had these kinds of players, especially batting at No.4,” Gambhir was quoted as saying to Star Sports.
“He has scored above 200 runs with three half-centuries. For me, he is the Player of the Tournament already for the kind of impact he has had even if India do not go on to win the World Cup,” he added.
Yadav is pulling off magical shots and he is breathing down the neck of the opposition batters with his range of shots. It is almost impossible for the opposition to keep him at bay if he gets going.
After his fine knock of 61 runs against Zimbabwe, Yadav also became the first Indian batter and the second overall after Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to score above 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year.
The 32-year-old will look to continue the same form against England and he is going to hold the key for the Rohit Sharma-led team.
