Suryakumar Yadav opens up on his form and preparations ahead of T20I series against Australia

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that he is working hard to get back amongst the runs in T20Is. SKY will lead India in a five-match T20I series and he will look to return to form after a mundane run in the Asia Cup.

Yadav had failed to lead from the front in the Asia Cup as he could not deliver the goods with the bat. The right-hander could only manage 72 runs in six innings at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 101.40 in the continental tournament.

Yadav has all the experience under his belt and he would look to deliver in the Australian conditions. The Mumbai batter has scored 2670 runs in 90 T20Is at an impressive average of 37.08 and a blistering strike rate of 164.20.

“I feel like I have been working really hard, before also I was doing it, it is not that I was not working hard. I’ve had a few good sessions back home, good 2-3 sessions here, so I am in a good space, I think that is really important. Runs, it will come eventually, but working hard towards a team goal, that’s more important,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I.

SKY said they don’t change their playing combination a lot, according to the playing conditions. Dubai pitches in the Asia Cup were low and slow whereas Australian tracks are known for their extra bounce and pace.

“I don’t think that our combination changes too much with conditions. If you see, when we played in South Africa, over there we played one fast bowler, one all-rounder, and three spinners. Conditions are similar over here, some bouncy tracks,” he said.

As India has a lot of depth in their squad, SKY opened up on the selection dilemma, stating only 11 players can take the field.

“As a captain, I have maintained friendships with everyone, because I can then explain them lovingly. Because only 11 players can play, we can’t play all 15 players. But according to me, anyone can get an opportunity, anytime. If you see, during the Asia Cup, Rinku Singh did not get an opportunity till the final, but he got a chance when the team needed the last 3-4 runs,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

The first T20I between India and Australia will be played at Canberra on Wednesday.
