Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels either Virat Kohli or Suryakumar Yadav is India’s player of the Super 12 stage. Kohli played an exceptional knock of unbeaten 82 off just 53 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan to take India to a historic win.
The former Indian skipper also scored fine half-centuries against the Netherlands and Bangladesh. Kohli is currently the highest run-getter of the tournament as he has scored 246 runs in five matches at an average of 123 and a strike rate of 138.98.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has batted at his absolute best in the tournament. SKY has scored 225 runs in five matches at an average of 75 and a blistering strike rate of 193.97. Both Kohli and SKY have scored three fifties in the tournament.
Chopra tilted towards Suryakumar Yadav as India’s player of the Super 12s.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “There is a straight split right down the middle. It can be either Kohli or Surya. Kohli’s knock against Pakistan was exceptional, which is tilting me slightly in his favor, but Surya has also struck three half-centuries and when he plays, he plays differently. Kohli has got a lot of awards, we are giving it to Surya.”
Chopra picked Shadab Khan as Pakistan’s player of the Super 12s. Khan scored a blistering fifty against South Africa and also took two wickets. Overall, the leg-spinner has scalped 10 wickets.
“Pakistan has made a sort of backdoor entry. Shadab Khan – he is my player because he won the South Africa match single-handedly. If they hadn’t won that match, they wouldn’t have reached here. In fact, he picked up two wickets against Bangladesh also.”
The renowned commentator picked Glenn Phillips as New Zealand’s best player. The right-hander has scored 195 runs in four matches for the Kiwis.
“I am going with Glenn Phillips, how well the guy has played. He scored a hundred, only two centuries have been scored to be fair. After that, he played another amazing knock and it seems runs will have to come from Glenn Phillips’ bat if this team has to go further. So he is my man from New Zealand.”
Former Delhi player selected Sam Curran as England’s best player of the competition so far. The left-arm seamer has taken 10 wickets in four matches for the Three Lions.
“When I look towards England, I am slightly split. I feel Sam Curran. He is doing the right things at the right time. He picked up five wickets against Afghanistan. He has regularly done well in the death overs. In fact in the Sri Lanka match, where Wood picked up three wickets, he had a hand in pulling them back.”
