Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has admitted that not being part of the team’s T20 World Cup squad is a major disappointment for him. Thakur added that every player’s dream is to not only play in the World Cup but also win it.
The all-rounder hasn’t received a lot of chances in the recent past in India’s T20I squad in the recent past. Meanwhile, Thakur bowled a good spell in the first ODI against South Africa at Lucknow as he returned with two wickets in the eight overs he bowled and conceded 35 runs.
Furthermore, he scored 33 runs off 31 balls to give a ray of hope to the home team in the run chase. However, his all-around performance went in vain as India lost the opening game by nine runs.
After missing the flight to Australia for the T20I showpiece, Thakur wants to perform in the upcoming matches and play in the next year’s ODI World Cup.
Thakur said in the pre-match press conference, “Of course, it’s a big setback. Every player dreams of playing in the World Cup, not just play, but win it as well.”
He added: “It’s okay I’m not selected this time. But there’s still a lot of cricket left and also there’s the ODI World Cup next year. My focus will be to do well in whatever matches I play and make winning contributions.”
Thakur added that injuries are part and parcel of the game and he is mentally ready if he receives a call-up to the World Cup squad.
“Injuries are part and parcel of the game, at some point, someone is going to get injured. We should not take it by heart honestly. There is a lot more cricket to come.
“If injuries happen then anyone can come at any point of time. As of now, your responsibility is to be ready whenever and wherever you’re asked to play. I will be mentally ready if I’m given a call-up. That’s all in my hands.”
