India’s pack leader Bhuvneshwar Kumar stated that they have flexible plans for death bowling in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kumar was at his best against the Netherlands at the SCG, Sydney on Thursday as he scalped two wickets and conceded only nine runs in the three overs he bowled.
Kumar bowled two maiden overs to help the team get off to a great start and also accounted for Vikrajit Singh, who looked at sea while facing the swing bowler. The 32-year-old from Meerut also dismissed the opposition’s captain Scott Edwards.
Meanwhile, Kumar’s form moving into the T20 World Cup was a concern but he has been able to hit the straps in the first two matches against Pakistan and the Netherlands.
Kumar has got all the experience under his belt and he has got the ball to swing in the Australian conditions.
“There is flexibility in our plans for death bowling in this tournament. You cannot plan early in this sport,” said Bhuvneshwar after the match as quoted by ANI.
“I did not know what was the talk about (his death bowling in and after 2022 Asia Cup) since my social media accounts are shut. In Perth, we all practiced and strategised and it was a crucial period. After winning the first match (against Pakistan), which was a do-or-die one for us, we felt confident. We as a bowling unit though felt that we gave away 15-20 runs more. As a team, we know that things go up and down. T20I format is tough on bowlers and batters both,” he added.
On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also heaped praise on young pacer Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer scalped three wickets against Pakistan and two against the Netherlands. Kumar revealed that Singh is always wiling to learn from the senior players in the team.
“He is always asking me, Virat and Rohit that how is the wicket here in Australia and what kind of shots batters play here. He has bowled well since his debut,” he said.
India will look to continue the good show and they will next take on South Africa at the Perth Stadium, Perth on Sunday.
