India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah believes it is imperative to adapt to the conditions and be proactive in the T20 format. Bumrah was once again right on the money for the Indian team, as he returned with impressive figures of 2-6 in the three overs he bowled against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Wednesday.
Bumrah dismissed Harry Tector with a bumper as the right-hander had no answer to the quick delivery. The ace pacer then bowled a perfect yorker to get rid of Joshua Little.
Bumrah was awarded Player of the Match for playing a key role in skittling out Ireland for 96 runs. He said in the post-match presentation, “Coming from India, with the ball seaming around, I wouldn’t complain when there’s help for bowlers. In this format you have to adapt to the conditions, you have to be proactive. Trying to stick to the plans and trying to go back to what has worked for me. You always want to cover all the bases in these conditions. You got to be prepared, very happy with the outing today.”
On the other hand, Ireland skipper Paul Stirling lauded the Indian bowlers for keeping them under the pump. Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh taking three and two wickets respectively. None of the Irish batters could go past the 30-run mark after they were put into bat by Rohit Sharma.
Stirling said after the loss, “Toss played a crucial part – stuck in to bat in overcast conditions. We needed to put a bit of pressure back on the Indian bowlers. They didn’t really miss that often. Their groupings and lengths were outstanding. Any time in the middle is crucial for us. We’ll be back here for a couple of days. Will give it a good crack against Canada.”
India will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Sunday.
